Accommodation

If you are volunteering on the railway, the Society has two types of self-catering accommodation available to members at very reasonable rates.

Heywood House

Heywood House is the Society owned accommodation available for those volunteering on the railway. It was completely refurbished in 2009.

Heywood House is self-catering hostel style accommodation and is situated in the main street of Ravenglass, just a few minutes’ walk from the railway.

The premises can sleep up to 12 persons in bunk beds. There are five bedrooms, 4 containing 2 beds and 1 containing 4 beds.

A large fully equipped kitchen is provided along with a lounge which contains a TV. There are also a shower room and a bathroom.

Residents are required to bring their own bedding, towels, etc.

Heywood House is heavily subsidised by the Society meaning that the cost to volunteers is kept as low as possible. Currently the rates begin at £6 per night for waged working volunteers.

Bookings must be made to the warden

Station Bungalow

The bungalow at Ravenglass station is available for families or groups of up to six people. It has recently been refitted internally and offers a good standard of self catering accommodation for those working on the railway. Prices and further details can be obtained from the railway office.
