Heywood House
Heywood
House is the Society owned accommodation available for those volunteering
on the railway. It is self-catering hostel style accommodation and is
situated in the main street of Ravenglass, just a few minutes’ walk from
the railway. The premises can sleep up to 12 persons in bunk beds, there
being four bedrooms, 2 containing 4 beds and 2 containing 2 beds. A large
fully equipped kitchen is provided along with a lounge which contains a
TV. There are also a shower room and a bathroom. Residents are required to
bring their own bedding, towels, etc. Heywood House is heavily subsidised
by the Society meaning that the cost to volunteers is kept as low as
possible. Currently the rates are £3 per night (£1 for students/unwaged
persons). Bookings can be made to Andrea Storey via email or letter to
R&ER office who will forward it on. Dai Pickup and Peter van Zeller
who live in Ravenglass will both be happy to pass out keys by arrangement,
and be happy to answer any queries you may have.
